Attari Home
Sliding and folding partitions wrapped in canvas allow the living space to convert into an additional bedroom when required. These partitions also function as a working surface for the artist, integrating art directly into the spatial framework. A glazed pocket door containing an original silk artwork forms a filtered threshold to the kitchen, bringing light and colour into an otherwise restrained palette.
Materials are kept consistent and understated. Tadelakt lime plaster, IPS-finished bathrooms, and seamless Kota stone flooring establish a durable and neutral base, allowing furniture, artwork, and daily use to define the atmosphere. The project prioritises adaptability, material continuity, and a lived-in approach to interior design.
Set within the narrow lanes of Chuim Village on the edge of Bandra, the Attari Home accommodates a family of four—three architects and an artist. Over time, the house has served multiple roles, functioning as a residence, studio, workspace, and place for gathering. The interiors draw from the material and spatial character of the surrounding village, shaped by long-term familiarity with verandahs, tiled roofs, earthen walls, and textured surfaces.
The recent interior reworking focuses on supporting the parents’ present needs while retaining flexibility within the plan. A primary suite is placed at one end of the house, organised around a walk-in wardrobe and an open bathroom conceived as a single, continuous space. At the opposite end, a horizontal slit window introduces controlled daylight into the living area, allowing light to move gradually across the interior through the day.
